I’m swimming in the Rhine, just swimming in the Rhine
What a glorious feeling, I’m happy again.
With my SchwimSack sealed up and my clothes really dry
I’m swimming just swimming in the Rhi-ne
We saw this yesterday in a walk about town and decided to try it, the locals have a tradition of swimming in natural waters. However the Rhine has a very strong current here in town, so you just need to float and keep out of the way of boat traffic. They have a specifically designated swimming “lane” and on the side of the river we were on, it is probably at least 2 km. You, of course, end up much further downstream than where you started, so you have to take your clothes and shoes with you, hence the SchwimSac, a waterproof bag that also acts as a flotation device. We had a very good time this morning and felt very Swiss (invigorating), we think we may even be some of the last people in it for the year (our hotel concierge was surprised to hear people were still swimming). All of the Stevenson family would love it! [I don’t even know if you would be able to swim upstream with some of the currents, it would definitely be a major resistance workout].
Here are some Rheinschwimmers. Too bad we couldn't get a picture of us schwimming.
