Road Trip 2013 - The Great American Escape
It was still dark out when we left - I remember doing the same thing growing up with "The Senator" (of course much less willingly!)

Roads in Ontario were free and clear until we reached the border. Peace Bridge web site was advising 35 minutes to cross, took us 37 minutes (hint: do not go to the outside lanes there's nowhere to jockey for position - the middle lanes were moving much faster). Of course Nexus is the next step - how I wished we had them!
Since we were stopped on the bridge, we took a picture of the "boundary line". Not sure why the locks are there.
Our crossing was uneventful and we spent a few hours shopping before stopping for a very late lunch/early dinner - which was very good (and excellent value as the entire meal was less than $40, including apps and drinks). Compadres was the restaurant and here is our Evernote Food entry.
We're playing the licence plate game and saw the following states/provinces today:
