The Blog the Bloggers Forgot

Yes, it has been awhile.  No, we are not dead.  Both Jennifer and I have been busy with work.  Jennifer was taking a night class, and I was curling 2-3 times per week.

We still continue to participate in our Gourmands group.  Our last meal was Jacques Pepin as the theme/chef.  We had some fried deviled eggs (my words), stuffed chicken and assorted veggies.  Dessert (made by Jennifer) were individual chocolate and nut tarts, and mint-chocolate truffles.  Yum!  As wtih all Gourmands dinner, too much food was eaten.

With the warmer weather, we are getting outside to walk more.  Jennifer has joined a women's golf league, and I contiue on with cycling.  I think I made a mistake but registerring for the expert category this year vs. sport.  I have to do an extra lap.  So far, I have not been the last person off the course.  That's my immediate goal.  My other cycling goal is ride at least 100km per week.  Ugh.

Ciao for now.

My New Toy

After 2 years of reading ebooks on my iPod touch, I finally decided to take the plunge and get an ereader.  When I told Jennifer, she asked "what took you so long?".

I quickly thought about an iPad, but while it is a really amazing device, it's too big for my taste.  I like to be able to take it with me everywhere and the iPad won't work for me.  I got a Kobo Vox ereader.  It's a little 'smarter' than you standard ereader.  It can run apps, which means I can access put on the Kindle ereader app and have access to all my ebooks, regardless if I bought them Kindle or Kobo.  Some reasons for getting the Kobo Vox:
  1. Kobo (Chapters) is a Canadian company
  2. The Vox (and Kobo) are a lot more open than Kindle, and the Kindle Fire (their equivalent to the Vox).  Ebooks for Kobo can be downloaded in different formats.
  3. The Kindle Fire is not available in Canada.
  4. The Vox runs on the Android OS, so I can put on other apps, check email, surf the web etc...
  5. Kobo will be coming out with interactive books, specific for the Vox (especially children's books; Scaredy Squirrel is one of my favourites).  Watch out, J-Man and Noah.
So how do I like it?  A lot!  I found I have been reading more.  While other reviews have criticized the Vox because it's not as powerful our fast as other tablets out there, it works for me.  You have to remember that it is not a tablet like the iPad or Galaxy.  It's an ereader first that can do a little more.  I can check email and surf the web.  I have a little music and pictures on there for the 'just in case' situation, but it's first an ereader.
